Aitzaz Ahsan Merit-Based Scholarship Programme

Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, is a Barrister-at-law and has also served as the President of Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan.  In 2010, he was awarded the Defender of Democracy Award, Parliamentarians for Global Action, Washington DC. He served two times as the Leader of the House in the Senate of Pakistan from 1994 to 1997 and again from 2012 to 2015. He also served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate. He was elected a member of the Senate of Pakistan from Punjab in 1994. He also served as the Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights until 1997. He served as the minority leader in the Senate between 1996 and 1999.

He is known for representing and leading the lawyers campaign to reinstate former Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. In 2008, Ahsan was awarded the Asian Human Rights Defender Award by the Hong Kong-based Asian Human Rights Commission in recognition. Mr. Ahsan is also the author of the book The Indus Saga and the Making of Pakistan and its Urdu translation, Sindh Sagar Aur Qyam-e-Pakistan which presents the cultural history of Pakistan. He has also co-authored the book Divided by Democracy with Lord Meghnad Desai of the London School of Economics.

To honour the excellency of Mr. Aitzaz Ahsan in the field of law, LSL has innitiated Aitzaz Ahsan scholarship programme for students on merit-basis. The scholarships offers 50% waiver of Admission and Tuition Fee, Library and Security Fee. However, the Scholarship does not apply to PU Examination Fee, PU Registration Fee and Pakistan Bar Council Fee etc.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • At least 80% Marks obtained in Intermediate or A-Level in three main subjects (no subsidiary) with A grade in all three subjects.
  • The student has passed LAT entry test with at least 60% marks.
  • Must score A grade in the interview with LSL Governing body
